This internship provides an opportunity for individuals who have encountered significant adversity, that has traditionally acted as a barrier to entering the venture capital industry. The successful applicant will be given the chance to support our investment teams, gaining first-hand experience at one of Australia’s largest and most successful venture capital firms.

The Chamberlain Internship was established to honor the legacy of OneVentures’ Partner Grant Chamberlain, who tragically lost his life.

Position Description

As an Intern, you will play an important role in supporting the investment team to deliver on the Partners’ vision for OneVentures to become one of Australia’s leading venture capital firms and the VC firm of choice: for investors because of our performance and returns; and for entrepreneurs because of the skills, expertise, and networks we bring with our capital increasing their likelihood of success.

Primary Responsibilities

The intern role provides support to the Investment Team, while also gaining experience and learning about the operations of a venture capital firm.

Assisting the analysts with the management of incoming deal flow
Assisting with quantitative analysis, including review of company financial models, valuation and exit modelling.
Conducting company, market, strategy, and industry research.
Supporting the analysts to monitor existing and prospective fund investments.
Potentially participating in due diligence and reference calls with company management teams led by the investment teams of the Funds.
Supporting portfolio company initiatives alongside the Investment Teams
Assisting in all aspects of the investment process under direction of the investment teams.
Supporting investment teams in the production of one-page summaries and investment Panel papers.
Performing other ad hoc tasks that support the broader investment team.

Qualifications and Experience

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to gain unique experience in Venture Capital. We’re looking for someone passionate about the innovation ecosystem and working with high-growth startups. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, showing initiative and demonstrating a strong attention to detail.

Have graduated or be in your final year of a relevant degree e.g. science, engineering, finance (note applications from mature aged candidates, including company Founders, are welcome).
Have a strong interest in innovation.
Investment experience is not necessary but evidence of a strong interest in venture investment and/or transferable skills will be important.
Have a minimum GPA of 4 and a record of steady academic achievement.
Be able to spend a minimum of 2 days per week on site at the OneVentures Sydney office.

We also encourage and will support participation in external mentorship programs where both parties find this to be a valuable experience.
Building a Professional Network: The successful applicant will have the chance to start build their professional profiles and connect with like-minded peers through events and community engagement.

Structure of the Chamberlain Internship

Chamberlain Interns will commit to:

Working 15.2 hours per week (0.4 FTE), 2 days per week, over the 26-week term of the internship.
Actively participate in the start-up community, for example by attending events as a representative of OneVentures
Work from OneVentures Sydney office where practical (although OneVentures Flexible Working policy applies to all team members)
Attend OneVentures team meetings and other meetings and events as required
Perform the responsibilities of the role of Intern as described in the Position Description

OneVentures commits to:

OneVentures will provide flexibility during the term of the internship to meet reasonable personal obligations (for example, attend lectures, take exams, undertake carer responsibilities)
OneVentures will remunerate the intern and will pay statutory superannuation
OneVentures will cover the costs of the intern participating in the Australian Investment Council VC101 program and other training as agreed (at OneVentures discretion)
OneVentures will reimburse the intern for any reasonable costs associated with attending events and meetings, per the OneVentures reimbursement policy
