Self introduction

I was born and raised in Perth. As a kid, my family moved around a lot before settling down in the North West of Perth. Looking back it was in Year 11 when subjects finally started to “click” which was perfect timing to help me smash my WACE exams, which enabled me to receive an offer to study Electrical Engineering at Curtin University.

I studied that for 3 years and was in my honours year when I decided to change to finance (I was young and naive, on reflection I should have just stayed in Engineering, nobody told me that engineering was desirable in the finance world!). However, I do not regret my decision. I excelled in finance receiving letters of commendation each year and went on to get my First Class Honours all while working a full-time job as a Financial & Commercial Advisor.

Before working as a Financial and Commercial Advisor, I worked a range of fun uni jobs (laser tag, cinemas, go carts), these all taught me communication and interpersonal skills, plus it gave me money so I could travel to Vietnam, South Korea, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Tell us about your role at Treasury and what it involves?

In a nutshell, my role at the Treasury is to complete research or you could say the initial ‘ground work’ for potential policy development opportunities in infrastructure. Part of this is looking at how the Australian Government can improve efficiency and governance of infrastructure projects over the lifecycle of the asset.

What’s the best thing about your role?

The coolest part of my job is getting to explore innovative infrastructure policy opportunities and provide a direction for adoption in Australia. Being able to craft a policy which is both innovative and practical is both challenging and thoroughly rewarding.
