The Programme
ROLE PURPOSE
The Adolescent Wellbeing and Youth Engagement Intern will support the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of programs and initiatives focused on sexual and reproductive health.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience in program development, community engagement, and advocacy within a dynamic and supportive team environment.
DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE
Communicates within Plan International Nigeria, development partners and related government institutions in two States Borno and Adamawa.
The SRH Intern will be requiring engagement across several key areas to support the effective delivery of SRH programs and initiatives.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Program Support:
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of SRH programs and campaigns.
- Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for ongoing SRH projects.
- Contribute to the development of training materials, presentations, and educational content.
Research and Advocacy:
- Conduct literature reviews and gather information on emerging trends and best practices in SRH.
- Support the preparation of policy briefs, advocacy materials, and reports.
Community Engagement:
- Assist with organizing workshops, focus group discussions, and awareness events.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
Administrative Tasks:
- Coordinate logistics for meetings, events, and training.
- Maintain accurate documentation and assist in preparing project reports.
Innovation and Learning:
- Propose innovative ideas for improving SRH program outreach and impact.
- Participate in team meetings, debriefs, and learning sessions.
- Delivery of SRH programs and initiatives.
SAFEGUARDING
- Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Programme Participants and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility.
- This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
- The Adolescent Wellbeing and Youth Engagement Intern, shall:
commit and contribute to an environment where children and programme participants feel respected, supported, safe and protected;
- Never act or behave in a manner that results in violence against a child or programme participant or places a child or programme participant at risk of violence;
- Be aware of and adhere to the provisions with the Global Safeguarding Policy, Safeguarding Code of Conduct including the PII Prevention of Sexual Harassment Exploitation and Abuse Policy in public and private life; and
report and respond to safeguarding concerns and breaches of the policies in line with the applicable procedures of Plan International Nigeria.
- Conduct all project activities in accordance with Programming and Influencing safeguarding standards including assessing safeguarding risks and taking proactive measures to mitigate them.

Internal:
- Plan Nigeria Humanitarian Response Unit.
- Plan Nigeria Education unit.
- Various departments within Plan Nigeria (HR, Finance, Admin, Programmes etc.)

Required Skills and Abilities
Essential:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field.
- At least one (1) year of experience in program implementation, research, advocacy, or community engagement within Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Gender, or Youth Development projects.
- Good knowledge and understanding of DO NO HARM principles and established international child protection standards (especially UNCRC)
- Demonstrate good knowledge and skills of Information Technology, in order to support the development and maintenance of database system of the project.
- Knowledge of safeguarding.
- Well-developed analytical and writing/presentation skills.
- Excellent organization, and record/file keeping skills to ensure information, knowledge, and data are reviewed, maintained and monitored.
- Previous experience directly providing services to children at risk and victims of abuse, exploitation and violence.
- Demonstrate experience working with government agencies, actors, and other stakeholders at the national, district, and local levels in respect to data hubs.
Desirable:
- Working experience in direct and indirect project implementation with implementing partners.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to peace, tolerance and development.
- Experience working with IDPs, refugees and other vulnerable populations (ideal)
- Experience with participatory approaches to emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or other related areas.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility.
- Understanding of gender issues in Nigeria, especially pertaining to the education sector.
- Team player, able to work respectfully and cooperatively with colleagues of different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Works well in and promotes teamwork, is comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
- Ability to read and write in both English and Hausa languages appropriately.
- Strong ability to work independently, organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
