Legal Support Officer

As a Legal Support Officer, you will play a key role in supporting Crown Prosecutors and Legal Officers in preparing and presenting cases in court. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates with an interest in criminal law to gain hands-on experience in a professional legal environment. Confidentiality and professionalism are essential in all aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be guided and supported to undertake a range of tasks, including:

  • Assisting with the preparation of prosecution briefs for trial and sentencing.
  • Gathering additional information such as witness statements and criminal history checks.
  • Communicating with police officers, legal practitioners, and court staff.
  • Managing court-related filing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Organising and maintaining a reliable bring-up system for case tracking.
  • Preparing and coordinating the service of subpoenas.
  • Providing sensitive and respectful communication to victims and witnesses.
  • Participating in regional court circuits (up to three weeks), offering exposure to diverse legal settings.
